About Guava Sardar L49

Guava (Psidium guajava), the apple of tropics, is one of the most common fruits in India. It is the fourth most important fruit in area and production after mango, banana and citrus. Being hardy, it gives an assured crop even with little care, and is good for rainfed areas also.

 

Successful Guava cultivation is grown under tropical and sub-tropical climate. In areas with distinct winter season, the yield tends to increase and quality improves.

Sunlight

  • Keep the plant outdoor with Natural bright Light.
  • Protect the plant from direct harsh sunlight as it can cause damage to the foliage.

Soil
  • The soil should be well drained and fertile rich in oragnic content.

Watering
  • Poke your finger/plain small stick into the soil to check the moisture.
  • Water when top soil (1-2 inches) feels dry to touch.
  • Water thoroughly in the summer and reduce watering in winter and rainy season.

Application of Fertilizer
  • During the main growing season feed the plant with organic fertilizer once a month and then three to four times per year as the tree matures.
  • Loosen the topsoil without disturbing the roots of the plant so it can uptake the nutrients and moisture easily.

Re-potting
  • When a plant outgrows in current pot,re-pot with fresh potting soil and some fertilizer.
  • Do the re-potting late evening and keep the plant in shady area for 2 to 3 days and then move the plant in its suitable climatic condition.


Plant Protection
  • Remove dead, infected or damaged plant parts and dispose them away from the planting area.
  • Spray Neem, Eucalyptus or Citrus oil for any insect/pest attack, as a primary treatment.

Don'ts
  • Do not over-water the plant especially when pot does not have drainage holes.

Medicinal Use:

  • The plant has been used to treat inflammation and kidney and urinary tract infections; as a diuretic and as a stomach tonic
  • Other uses include carminative action and treatment of cystitis, urethritis, prostatitis, and gout
  • It also has been used for leukorrhea and yeast infections
  • Note: Used only after consulting the specialist

Culinary Use:

  • Eaten fresh, but can also be used for jellies, jams, ice cream, sauces, cakes, tarts, drinks and chutney
